Process Work and the Arts

We've been exploring and developing Process Work in the arts, with actors, improvisers, directors, writers, painters, opera singers, musicians, puppeteers and dancers. Developing the application of Process Work in theatre has led to new quality of improvisation and methods of devising, as well as performance. Arlene co-directed SPIRIT with Improbable Theatre.

The attitudes, ideas and tools of Process Work have been so useful to many artists, when grappling with how to welcome the unexpected, the mistake, the quirks, the thing you think has gone all wrong, to recognize you are at a doorway into a deeper level of your work, and to walk through it.

Process Work tools are invaluable to work with the boundaries of our perception and beliefs, discover the underlying conflicts of a piece, touch the sense of a creative source under a project, and to work with body sensations, movements, sound, image, and disturbances or surprises in our perception. The methods also work with inner critics and blocks as part of the creative process.
